5 Things We've Learned in 5 Years of Marriage

We recently recorded an episode of The Wakened Podcast talking about the 5 love languages and how to use them to love your partner better. That episode ended up being one of our most listened to yet! So this inspired us to share more about our experience with marriage, in hopes that we could bring some value to others.

David and I have been together for about 8 years and married for 5 of them. This upcoming October will make our 6th wedding anniversary! I can't even believe it. In honor of the last 5 years we've spent married to one another, we decided to dedicate an episode to talking about 5 things (actually 6) we have learned in 5 years of being married. We also share bonus marriage tips from YOU guys on instagram! The 5 things we share is what we've learned through our personal experience, but we'd love to hear what you've learned through your experience with marriage. So please share your tips on our most recent post on instagram HERE!

To hear us dive fully into each topic, listen to the episode wherever you get your podcasts! Here is a brief recap of what we addressed in the episode:
1. Your marriage is going to be unique to YOU. Just like there will never exist another person like you, there will never exist a marriage just like yours. Don't let comparison to others steal the joy in your own marriage.

2. Dignify each other with respect. If love is the water that keeps marriage alive, then mutual respect is the soil!

3. Know your partners love language and love them accordingly. We can't recommend finding out you and your partners love language enough! Gary Chapman wrote the book, The Five Love Languages. It has been a valuable resource for us and countless others!

4. Marriage is work! When you put work into your marriage, you're investing in yourself, your partner and your union together. The more you put into it, the more you'll get out of it.

5. Marriage is easier when you can learn to forgive + apologize. "A good marriage is made up of two good forgivers."
